| Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 721pm EST Thu Jan 15 2026 Issued at 721pm EST Thu Jan 15 2026 Early evening IR satellite imagery is showing clear skies spreading across the forecast area as a much cooler and drier air mass moves into the region in the wake of the recent cold front. The breezy northwest winds today setup strong cold air advection, which has allowed temperatures to drop throughout the afternoon, with temperatures already in the low 40s north and upper 40s to mid 50s south. Even as wind speeds subside overnight, the cold air advection will be enough to bring temperatures down to near or below freezing across the Nature Coast counties and much of the interior portions of west central and southwest Florida. In addition to the freeze warning, a cold weather advisory is in effect for the entire area tonight for wind chills of between 25 and 35. The forecast looks on track overall. The Small Craft Advisory was extended through 6am for the central and southern Gulf waters. Otherwise, no changes were made to the forecast for the land areas for the evening update. Marine Issued at 721pm EST Thu Jan 15 2026 Strong northwest winds today produced elevated waves of up to around 12 feet, leading to a Small Craft Advisory across the coastal waters. Winds will start to relax overnight from north to south, but seas of 7 feet or more will linger through early Friday morning, especially over the waters adjacent to southwest Florida. As a result, the Small Craft Advisory was extended until 6am for the central and southern Gulf waters. Winds will continue to relax Friday and Saturday, then another front will move in by Sunday, bringing chances of rain and hazardous winds and seas.
